Our History
Nearly a century ago, MMC Materials began as Mississippi Concrete and Material Company, established in Jackson, Mississippi, in 1927 by the company now known as Dunn Investment Company.
99 Years Strong
In 1932, the company changed its name to Mississippi Materials Company and was led by Ellis Hoffpauir. In 1959, the company invested in a larger concrete plant and, over the next 20 years, expanded operations to locations throughout Mississippi under the leadership of General Manager Mike Mockbee.
Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, the company experienced dramatic growth in delivery and operations. Key leadership was provided by Elton Cook, Gary Ferebee, and James French.
In 1999, Mississippi Materials Company changed its name to MMC Materials, Inc., and growth continued across all areas of the business. In 2002, Gulf Concrete experienced significant expansion under the leadership of Danny Rodgers, President and COO of MMC Materials and Gulf Concrete. Gulf Concrete later became Bayou Concrete, LLC, serving customers across the Mississippi and Alabama Gulf Coast.
In the early 2000s, expansion continued with the addition of plants in the Golden Triangle area. In 2006, Rodney Grogan, then-President of sister company Dunn Road Builders, became President of MMC Materials. Danny Rodgers, former President of MMC Materials and Gulf Concrete, became President and CEO of Dunn Investment Company. During this time, the company formally incorporated the values of honesty, excellence, and continuous improvement into its branding and culture.
In 2018, Judd Beech became President of Bayou Concrete, leading continued growth and operational expansion along the Gulf Coast. In January 2020, Judd Beech was named President of MMC Materials, overseeing operations across the company’s growing regional footprint. In 2025, Bayou Concrete rebranded as MMC Materials Gulf Coast LLC, further aligning the Gulf Coast operations with the MMC Materials brand and long-term vision.
Today, MMC Materials delivers comprehensive concrete solutions to commercial and residential customers throughout Mississippi, Alabama, Florida, West Tennessee, and Eastern Louisiana. As a premier concrete producer, MMC Materials is committed to excellence, outstanding service, quality assurance, and continuous innovation.
